Sam, a young New York City writer known for successful but unfulfilling novelizations, becomes infatuated with Birdie, a quirky barista at his local coffee shop. After failing to make a connection through traditional means, he decides to study her Facebook profile and systematically molds his personality, hobbies, and interests—from ballroom dancing to French cooking—to match her ideal "dream guy." While his harebrained scheme initially leads to a successful romance, Sam soon finds himself trapped in an escalating series of lies, struggling to maintain the exhausting facade of his exaggerated alter ego while fearing that Birdie will never accept his true, unpolished self.
