Atonement

Set in 1935 England, thirteen-year-old aspiring writer Briony Tallis irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she misinterprets a flirtation between her older sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner, the housekeeper's son. Driven by a child's confusion and jealousy, Briony accuses Robbie of a crime he did not commit, leading to his arrest and their forced separation. As World War II erupts and the characters are swept into the chaos of the Dunkirk evacuation and London's nursing wards, the film follows Briony’s lifelong quest for forgiveness and her attempt to find a literary path toward atonement for her childhood mistake.
