Twelve-year-old Ted lives in Thneedville, a sterile, tree-less city, and hopes to impress his crush Audrey by giving her a real tree. To do so, he seeks out the reclusive Once-ler, who tells him the story of the Lorax — a grumpy but earnest creature who speaks for the trees — and explains how unchecked industrial greed destroyed his forest.
