Wei, a brilliant but socially isolated Chinese exchange student living in New Zealand, is haunted by a facial deformity and the tragic death of her father, a scientist who died during a failed skin-regeneration experiment. Determined to complete his work, she discovers a botanical breakthrough that allows her to successfully graft human tissue. However, her obsession with popularity and beauty takes a macabre turn when a violent confrontation with her popular cousin leads Wei to literally steal her identity by grafting her cousin's face onto her own.
