Madhav Jha, a simple boy from rural Bihar with limited English skills, gains admission to a prestigious Delhi college via a sports quota, where he falls deeply in love with Riya Somani, an affluent, English-speaking girl. Recognizing their vastly different social worlds, Riya suggests a compromise by becoming his "half-girlfriend"—more than a friend but less than a partner.
