John Clark is a successful but weary estate lawyer who feels trapped in the repetitive grind of his daily commute and suburban life. His world shifts when he spots a beautiful, melancholic dance instructor looking out from a studio window and, on a whim, signs up for ballroom dancing lessons. Keeping his new passion a secret from his devoted wife, Beverly, John begins to rediscover his zest for life through the grace of the waltz and the energy of the mambo. As Beverly grows suspicious and hires a private investigator, the film explores the intimacy of marriage and the importance of having a "witness" to one's life, ultimately celebrating the courage it takes to pursue happiness.
