The crew of the USS Enterprise-A is called back from shore leave to handle a hostage crisis on Nimbus III, the "Planet of Galactic Peace." There, they encounter Sybok, a renegade Vulcan and Spock's half-brother, who possesses the unique ability to "heal" others by making them face their deepest emotional pain.
