After being demoted for a past failure, legendary Federation Colonel Johnny Rico is reassigned to a remote satellite station on Mars to train a squad of green recruits. While the Federation’s main fleet is occupied attacking the bug homeworld, a massive, unexpected Arachnid infestation erupts on Mars, leaving Rico and his "Lost Patrol" as the planet's only line of defense.
