Hulk (2003) is a stylized superhero origin story that explores the dark psychological and emotional roots behind the Hulk. Dr. Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) works in genetics and radiation research, but after a lab accident the latent mutations in his DNA cause him to transform into the monstrous green Hulk whenever he is under stress or anger. He’s pursued by the U.S. military led by General Ross (Sam Elliott) and must confront not just external threats but his own repressed memories and the shady legacy of his father, David Banner (Nick Nolte), whose experiments and genetic manipulations tie deeply into Bruce’s condition. Alongside his love interest and scientific partner Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), Bruce struggles with dual identities, moral responsibility, and the fear that the monster inside may consume him. The film blends action, special effects, family drama, and psychological tension.
