The Inspection

Inspired by writer-director Elegance Bratton's own life experiences, the film follows Ellis French, a young, gay Black man who joins the Marine Corps after being rejected by his mother and left with few prospects. As he endures the grueling, often brutal physical and psychological demands of boot camp, he must also navigate deep-seated prejudice from both instructors and fellow recruits. Despite the hostility, French finds an unexpected sense of belonging, strength, and camaraderie within the military structure, ultimately transforming his identity and reclaiming his self-worth in a system that initially seemed designed to break him.
