Set in the 1980s, Beauty follows a gifted young Black woman in New Jersey who possesses a once-in-a-generation singing voice. As she stands on the precipice of global stardom after signing a lucrative recording contract, she finds herself caught in a grueling tug-of-war between her ambitious, controlling father, her protective yet jealous mother, and her devoted girlfriend, Jasmine. The film explores the harsh sacrifices of the music industry as Beauty is pressured to "wear a mask," compromise her queer identity, and refine her image to suit mainstream commercial interests, ultimately questioning the true cost of fame and the preservation of one's authentic self.
