The film follows Gulrez “Gullu” Qadir (Parineeti Chopra), a spirited shoe‑sales girl from Hyderabad who becomes disillusioned by the dowry system after her fiancé’s family demands a large sum. Seeking to turn the tables, she and her father move to Lucknow under false identities to trap a dowry‑seeking groom, Tariq “Taru” Haidar (Aditya Roy Kapur), a charismatic restaurant‑owner. As Gullu executes her plan, she unexpectedly develops genuine feelings for Taru, forcing her to confront her scheme and her conscience, leading to an ultimately redemptive realisation of love beyond transactional marriage.
