Manjhi: The Mountain Man

Based on the extraordinary true story of Dashrath Manjhi, a poor laborer from Gehlaur village near Gaya, Bihar, the film chronicles his decades-long struggle driven by grief, love, and sheer resolve. After his heavily pregnant wife, Phaguniya, sustains fatal injuries slipping from a treacherous rocky mountain that cuts off their remote village from medical care, Manjhi resolves that no one else should suffer the same fate. Armed only with a hammer and chisel, he defies societal ridicule, deep poverty, and seemingly insurmountable physical odds over 22 years to single-handedly carve a 30-foot-wide, 360-foot-long path through the mountain, reducing travel distance to essential services from 55 kilometers to just 15 kilometers.
