Masaan

Set against the spiritual backdrop of Varanasi, Masaan weaves together two poignant narratives that challenge the rigid social constructs of caste and morality. One story follows Devi, a young woman struggling to reclaim her life after a sexual encounter is interrupted by a police raid, leading to tragedy and blackmail. Parallel to this, Deepak, a boy from the Dom community whose family works the cremation ghats, falls deeply in love with an upper-caste girl, Shaalu. As their lives eventually intersect along the banks of the Ganges, the film explores the universal themes of grief, redemption, and the longing to escape the confines of a small town caught between tradition and modernity.
