Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga

Gangaram, the sarpanch of an impoverished village bordering the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, finds his community pushed to the edge of ruin by severe famine, failed crops, and constant wildlife encroachment. After learning about a government policy offering a substantial cash compensation of ten lakh rupees to the family of anyone killed in a tiger attack, he courageously decides to sacrifice himself to a tiger to save his destitute village. Venturing deep into the forest on this bizarre and tragic mission, he crosses paths with an eccentric poacher named Jim Ahmed, sparking philosophical reflections and an unlikely companionship that turns a desperate suicide plot into an insightful satire on human greed, bureaucratic apathy, and socio-economic survival.
