The Brutalist

The Brutalist follows Hungarian‑Jewish architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody), a Holocaust survivor who emigrates to the United States in the aftermath of World War II, seeking to rebuild his life, career and marriage in a new land rife with promise and peril. Settling in Pennsylvania, he is soon discovered by wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce), who commissions him for a grand project. But as László’s architectural vision unfolds, so too do the personal costs of ambition, trauma and assimilation—the film exploring the uneasy marriage of artistry and capitalism, the shadow of the past, and the price one pays for reinventing oneself in a new world.
