The Stanford Prison Experiment

Based on the notorious 1971 social psychology investigation, the film depicts a simulated prison environment established in the basement of Stanford University. Dr. Philip Zimbardo selects 24 male student volunteers to assume the roles of either prisoners or guards to study the psychological effects of perceived power. However, the boundaries between reality and the experiment quickly dissolve as the guards descend into sadistic abuse and the prisoners suffer emotional breakdowns. Originally intended to last two weeks, the experiment is terminated after only six days as the participants become dangerously immersed in their assigned roles.
