Set in the polished noir landscape of 1960s New York, Walter Stackhouse is a successful architect trapped in a suffocating and loveless marriage to his neurotic wife, Clara. His life takes a dark turn when he becomes obsessed with an unsolved murder case involving a local bookstore owner, Kimmel, who is suspected of killing his own spouse. As Walter begins to mirror Kimmel’s darkest impulses and imagine a life free of Clara, his reality spirals into a web of deceit and suspicion. When a second body is discovered, Walter find himself caught in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with a relentless detective who is determined to prove that Walter's fantasies have manifested into a lethal reality.
