Blood Diamond

Set against the backdrop of the Sierra Leone Civil War in the late 1990s, the story follows Danny Archer, a South African mercenary and diamond smuggler, and Solomon Vandy, a Mende fisherman. While working as a slave in a rebel-controlled diamond mine, Solomon discovers and hides a massive pink diamond that could provide the means to rescue his family and save his son from a life as a child soldier. Archer, learning of the stone, forms an uneasy alliance with Solomon and an idealistic American journalist, Maddy Bowen, to recover the gem. Their journey through war-torn territory explores the brutal reality of "conflict diamonds" and the human cost of the international jewelry trade.
