Eastern Promises

Set in the grim criminal underbelly of London, the story follows Anna, a midwife who discovers the diary of a young Russian girl who died during childbirth. As Anna attempts to find the girl's family, the diary leads her into the path of a ruthless Vory V Zakone (Russian Mafia) family. Her investigation entangles her with Nikolai, a mysterious and stoic "cleaner" for the mob whose loyalty is tested as a brutal turf war erupts. The film is a visceral exploration of identity, trafficking, and the deep-seated rituals of the criminal world, culminating in a violent struggle for survival and redemption.
