Maudie

Set in mid-20th century Nova Scotia, Maudie is a poignant biographical drama based on the life of folk artist Maud Lewis. Struggling with severe rheumatoid arthritis and a dismissive family, Maud seeks independence by answering an advertisement for a live-in housekeeper placed by Everett Lewis, a reclusive and gruff fish peddler. Living in a tiny, isolated shack, Maud begins to transform her bleak surroundings by painting vibrant birds and flowers on the walls and windows. Despite their vastly different personalities and initial friction, an unlikely romance blossoms as Maud’s talent gains national recognition, proving that beauty and happiness can be found in the most modest of circumstances.
