Paheli

Adapted from Vijaydan Detha's celebrated Rajasthani folk tale Duvidha, Paheli follows Lachchi, an enthusiastic young bride who is abruptly left behind the day after her wedding when her dutiful but business-consumed husband, Kishanlal, departs on a five-year trade mission. A shape-shifting spirit smitten by her beauty assumes Kishanlal’s appearance and confesses his genuine love and true supernatural identity directly to Lachchi, offering her the choice her actual marriage denied her. When the real Kishanlal eventually returns to find his household embracing an identical double and a pregnant wife, a wise old shepherd must devise three impossible riddles to resolve the dilemma and reveal the true depths of love.
