After struggling with depression and admitting himself to a mental institution, Hunter “Patch” Adams (Robin Williams) realises that laughter and compassion can heal the spirit — not just medicine. He then pursues medical school despite facing resistance from the establishment, determined to treat patients with humor and humanity. Along the way, he befriends fellow student Carin Fisher and dreams of creating a free clinic.
