The Substance

Elisabeth Sparkle, a fading Hollywood star fired from her fitness show on her 50th birthday, spirals into desperation in a youth-obsessed industry. She is lured into using a black-market medical procedure known as "The Substance," a cell-replicating serum that creates a younger, more "perfect" version of herself named Sue. However, the process requires a strict equilibrium where the two personas must swap bodies every seven days without exception. As Sue’s popularity skyrockets, she begins to resent the time owed to her older self, leading to a gruesome and visceral breakdown of their shared biological bond in this audaciously dark body-horror satire.
