Inspired by true events from the 2014 Lok Sabha elections,
Unda follows a nine-member police unit from Kerala, led by the veteran but unassuming Sub-Inspector Manikandan (Mammootty), as they are dispatched to a Maoist-infested "Red Belt" in Chhattisgarh for election duty. Despite their lack of experience in insurgent warfare and being equipped with outdated rifles and a severe shortage of ammunition—the titular "Unda" (bullet)—the team must navigate bureaucratic neglect, local hostility, and internal fears to ensure a peaceful democratic process. The film shifts the spotlight from traditional "super-cop" tropes to a grounded, realistic portrayal of ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances, highlighting the stark contrast between the administrative expectations and the raw reality of the personnel on the ground.
