Set five years after the catastrophic Clarke comet decimated the planet, the Garrity family is forced to leave the relative safety of their underground bunker in Greenland when resources dwindle and the environment becomes untenable. John and Allison, along with their now-teenage son Nathan, embark on a perilous journey across the frozen, lawless wasteland of a devastated Europe in search of a rumored sanctuary in the south.
