In the quiet coastal town of Midwich, a mysterious invisible force suddenly renders every inhabitant unconscious for several hours. In the aftermath of this "blackout," ten local women find themselves inexplicably pregnant, eventually giving birth on the same day to children who share striking platinum-blonde hair and piercing, hypnotic eyes. As these children grow at an accelerated rate, they display terrifying psychic abilities and a cold, collective intelligence that threatens the safety of the community. Local physician Dr. Alan Chaffee and government scientist Dr. Susan Verner must race against time to understand the alien nature of these predatory offspring before their quest for dominance results in the total destruction of the town.
